About HostCompass

HostCompass is an independent guide to web hosting, organized around one idea the big rankings skip: the best host for you is largely the one with a server nearest your visitors.

HostCompass exists because "best web hosting" lists rank companies for an average visitor who lives nowhere. Real audiences are somewhere specific, and the distance between them and your server is the one performance factor you can't code your way out of. So we rank hosting by datacenter reach — where the servers actually are, whether you can pick the region, and how a CDN fills the gaps — country by country.

How we keep it honest

We never publish a speed test we didn't run. Latency figures on this site are physics rules of thumb (roughly 1 ms of round-trip time per 100 km), clearly labelled as illustrative, not benchmarks. Datacenter regions and prices are advertised figures with the date we read them, because hosts open and close regions and change prices without notice. Prices are shown as intro next to renewal, since the renewal is what you actually pay. And anything about data-residency law is general information with a date on it — not legal advice.

How we stay independent

Some links to hosts are affiliate links: if you buy after clicking, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes which host we say is nearest your audience. When the right answer for a country is a local host with no affiliate program — MilesWeb in India, Krystal in the UK, a Canadian or Australian independent — we recommend it and tell you plainly that we earn nothing. Full details are on our affiliate disclosure page.

What HostCompass is not

HostCompass is not a hosting company, a reseller, or affiliated with any host named here — the brand names belong to their owners and appear only to identify the products we discuss. We cover pure web hosting: shared, WordPress, VPS, cloud and dedicated servers. We do not cover website builders, and we don't offer support for any host's product. For that, contact the host directly.
